America and the Phillipines
Just like the Puerto Rican's they began to wonder whether they were from their origin or a part of the U.S. At one point of time, the Foraker Act was passed in order to give some kind of freedom to the Puerto Ricans in governing themselves. The Insular Cases also began soon after and the decision from those cases revealed that American laws don't necessarily apply to their colony.
The Phillipines were in the same situation, however, they were not given as much independence as Puerto Rico. As time passed they felt that they weren't given the freedom that they deserved. After a while, Emilio Aguinaldo became the leader of the revolt and attempted to gain his countries's independence through violence.
