Teddy and the Conservation
During this time, America's natural resources started to evaporate as people continued to eargerly cut down trees. In order to perserve what was left of the forests, Congress passed the Desert Land Act of 1877 to sell land cheaply in addition that the owner would irrigate the soil in three years time. Another act that was passed was The Forest Reserve Act of 1891 that allowed the president to put aside some land to create national parks. The Carey act of 1894 gave states land to settle or irrigate as well.
The political cartoon on the left shows how president Roosevelt is shown as a ranger trying to protect what's left of the forest. He was able to put aside 125 million acres while keeping the nation's small forest. This photo easily shows people that his beliefs are written on the sign and that others need to follow it since it is law.
